SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Some area workers will see a pay increase after Jan. 1, when minimum wage increases take effect in New Jersey and Delaware.
Starting New Year’s Day, New Jersey’s minimum wage will rise from $12 to $13. The increase is part of a law signed two years ago by Gov. Phil Murphy.
The pay boost is part of state legislation that is gradually raising the minimum wage for most employees to $15 an hour by 2024. Bartenders, wait staff and other tipped workers will see their minimum rate go up $1 to $5.13.
Small and seasonal employers have until 2026 to pay $15 an hour. Their minimum rate this year goes from $11.10 to $11.90, and the floor for long-term care facility workers’ pay grows to $16 an hour.
Delaware has a similar graduated scale for the minimum wage. Its rate goes from $9.25 to $10.50 on New Year’s Day.
In all, 25 states will see a minimum wage increase in 2022, but Pennsylvania is not among them. Pennsylvania’s minimum wage remains at $7.25 — unchanged for the last 15 years.
