NJ police nab burglar by DNA sampling saliva left at the scene

SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Authorities in Burlington County used DNA to nab a man suspected of burglary.

New Jersey State Police said a suspected thief left a saliva sample on the stairs of a home in Hainesport on Feb. 3, where copper piping was stolen from the basement.

That sample was entered into a national database and came back as a match to 34-year-old William Clifford of Maple Shade.

He was brought into custody on Feb. 15, and a warrant was issued for another DNA sample. The DNA was a confirmed match.

Clifford was arrested on the spot and is now being held at the Burlington County Jail pending a court hearing.
