PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) – We still have a few years before Philadelphia gets to host some World Cup games of its own, but the city has already been taken over by soccer fever.

A new facility in South Philadelphia is giving people a chance to enjoy the World Cup, which starts on Sunday — and maybe even play their own game of soccer.

When Qatar and Ecuador squared off Sunday morning, U90 opened its doors atop the Bok Building for people to watch the game or play on their 5-on-5 indoor field.

The people who came out opted for the latter.

U90 site manager Kate Cherewich says the excitement of the World Cup is definitely helping peak people’s interest in the unique setup that also features indoor training greens and a pro shop.

“Just seeing people’s excitement of the space opening up and the opportunity for them to come play,” she said. “Also the inclusion to have everybody come and watch the games, we’re actually hosting them.”

The place plans on growing their watch party’s over the World Cup tournament, by hosting them in their auditorium where people will be able to enjoy food and drinks while watching them on the big screen.

Cherewich says the space will hold up to 600 people per game.

“It’s just giving an opportunity to have everyone feel really inclusive in the soccer community,” she said.

The first big screen game the space will host is USA vs England on Friday.
