PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia’s unrelenting gun violence crisis has continued into the new year, with no end in sight.
A teen boy is among two people who died from gunfire in a 20-minute period early New Year's morning. 11 people were shot and a man was stabbed in five separate incidents as 2022 began, with another triple shooting at an initially unknown time, according to authorities.
Philadelphia Police said it was around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning when someone opened fire at a large New Year's party on West Luray Street near North Front Street and Rising Sun Avenue in North Philadelphia.
Three people were shot, including a 33-year-old man who was killed and two 23-year-old women who were listed in stable condition.
Inspector D.F. Pace said they interviewed witnesses who said the shooter may have been at the party and knows the victims.
"There were multiple people in the building at the time of the shooting. A number of people are being detained right now and questioned by homicide detectives," said Pace.

"It was (at) some sort of a business, a car part store or car repair shop, and the garage was being used for a large gathering at the time."
Police say a quintuple shooting happened around 1:50 a.m. Saturday near Temple University at North 16th Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue.
A 16-year-old boy was shot in the head and died at the hospital, police said Saturday afternoon.
Two women believed to be in their 20s were injured from the same incident, and are expected to physically recover. A man who police said was about 20 years old was listed in critical condition, one of the two men who were shot. The other man, 27, was said to be in stable condition.
Police are looking at video footage from the area to answer many questions, including information on the shooter and where exactly the large group was when the incident happened.
Three young men were shot at what police first said was an unknown time near the corner of Frankford Avenue and East Pike Street. Two of the victims, 21 and 23, were listed in critical but stable condition, while the other victim, 23, was placed in stable condition.
A woman and man were shot at about 2:15 a.m. near the corner of 8th and Cambria streets, police said. The woman, 22, was shot in the eye. Both victims were said to be in stable condition Saturday afternoon.
A 28-year-old man was shot at about 3:20 a.m. near the corner of Torresdale Avenue and Howell Street in Northeast Philadelphia, according to investigators. He was listed in stable condition.
At the same time, a 49-year-old man was found stabbed near South 29th and Reed Streets in the Grays Ferry neighborhood of South Philadelphia. He was also listed in stable condition.
No one was initially arrested after any of the violent incidents. No weapons were recovered except for the triple shooting in Northeast Philadelphia.
These shootings follow the deadliest gun violence year on record in Philadelphia, with 562 people killed during 2021. More than five dozen of the deadly shooting victims were children.
On Friday, Councilmember Cindy Bass of Germantown released a statement calling on Gov. Tom Wolf and Attorney General Josh Shapiro to initiate a conversation with Mayor Jim Kenney on bringing in the National Guard to assist local law enforcement.
In the past, Mayor Kenney has consistently refused those growing calls by community activists and leaders.
