SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Deaths and hospitalizations from COVID-19 are on the rise in New Jersey as the delta variant continues to spread statewide. All but three counties are considered "high transmission" areas, according to the CDC.

On Tuesday, Gov. Phil Murphy announced 20 new deaths from COVID-19, the highest number in a single day since May. Over the past week, the daily average for deaths has been about 8.
Hospitalizations continue to be a concern for health officials. There were 866 people in the hospital statewide Tuesday, including 157 in intensive care. Both figures have more than doubles since last month.
On the bright side, the governor said New Jersey has reached an important milestone on the vaccination front. More than 6 million people now have at least one dose, and almost 5.5 million are fully vaccinated.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Murphy said, "Roll up your sleeve, and let’s finish this fight!"
