PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Some people who have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at New Jersey’s megasite in Gloucester County say they still don’t have an appointment for their second dose. The county is blaming the state’s registration system.
State Health Commissioner Judy Persichilli at the governor’s COVID-19 news conference confirmed that second dose appointments were not made at the Rowan College of South Jersey site.
“I’ve had about 30 emails in relation to Gloucester-Rowan and Monroe and a couple of other sites that did not make the appointments,” she said.
Persichilli said that everyone who is due for a second dose will be contacted.
“The second doses are set aside,” she said. “So we have to make sure that they have their appointments to get their second dose. And that is the best practice. Get your second dose appointment before you leave.”
Persichilli said the state system should have the capability to schedule second doses by Friday.
Gloucester County, in the meantime, said it’s working on setting up its own scheduling system.
Complicating matters, Persichilli said the Rowan College megasite was closed Monday because it had run out of vaccine. But she said another shipment was expected, and the site was expected to reopen Tuesday.
Gov. Phil Murphy said a state hotline (855-568-0545) set up to answer vaccine scheduling questions received 58,000 calls in the first four hours it opened on Monday, which he said was a sign of the pent up demand for a limited supply of vaccine.
