PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Wolf administration is easing more restrictions on gathering sizes across Pennsylvania.

The governor’s office said maximum indoor occupancy will increase to 50% and outdoor occupancy to 75%. The measure takes effect on Monday, May 17.

Municipalities, school districts and venues can opt for stricter standards.

Currently, maximum occupancy is set at 25% indoors and 50% outdoors, regardless of venue size.

State measures exclude Philadelphia, which operates under its own set of mitigation orders.

“We recognize the significant strain businesses have faced during COVID-19 mitigation efforts,” Gov. Tom Wolf said in a statement. “Throughout the last year and half, we have seen businesses continue to put the safety of their patrons first and I believe they will continue to do so even with this capacity increase.”

Last week, Wolf announced the state will lift all COVID-19 mitigation orders except masking on Memorial Day, May 31. The mask mandate will be lifted once 70% of Pennsylvanians age 18 and older are fully vaccinated.
