FOLCROFT, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — One person is in police custody in connection with Saturday’s hit-and-run crash that killed the daughter of a Folcroft Borough police officer, but authorities are still looking for the driver.
Police say 43-year-old Monia Tabon is the owner of the silver Honda Accord that struck and killed 27-year-old Ashley McLean-Gaylor early Saturday in Eastwick, but they don’t believe she was behind the wheel at the time of the crash.
Tabon, who called Delaware County 911 within an hour of the crash from Florida, has been charged with filing a false report.
They say she claimed her rented Honda was stolen because she received an app notification, but also gave conflicting information as to whether or not she had her keys with her. Police say the car showed no signs of forced entry.
According to the police report, Tabon said she parked her car in front of her aunt’s house without her aunt’s knowledge. Both the car and Tabon are now in police custody as they continue to search for the driver.
McLean-Gaylor, who died instantly after the crash, was the daughter of longtime Folcroft Borough Police Officer Leslie McLean. She will be laid to rest on Friday at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, Delaware County.
Delaware County’s FOP Lodge 27 has offered a $15,000 reward to help find the driver of the Accord. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call 215-686-TIPS.
