Never one to shy away from innovation, Papa Johns is taking a bold new step in the pizza game, and focusing on what many consider the essence of the pizza: the toppings.
The chain’s new pizza bowls will be just that, all toppings and no actual pizza.
There’s a feeling amongst Papa Johns executives that slowing sales are a result of people just being tired of pizza. Scott Rodriguez, SVP of menu strategy and innovation, told CNN, “There's a general thought that there could be a little bit of pizza fatigue, because that's all we've had for the last couple of years."
So to get people excited about pizza again, to make pizza GREAT again, Papa Johns will soon begin offering these Pizza Bowls, featuring all toppings and no crust. They will come in three flavors, Garden Veggie, Chicken Alfredo and Italian Meats Trio.
They will be available to the company's loyalty members this week, and will roll out nationally next. They will cost $7.99.
Papa Johns also believes their Pizza Bowls will provide a “healthy” alternative to pizza, while adhering to our innate desires for “the indulgence of pizza.”
