PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Voting is something to celebrate.

And with Party at the Mailbox, the celebration comes to you.

The national non-partisan group sends voters free customized goodie boxes to get them excited and engaged about voting. The campaign recently launched in Philadelphia.

“We have Tastykakes in there, Peanut Chews in there. Under Armour donated 5,000 masks,” said Nykidra Robinson, who founded Black Girls Vote and helped establish Party at the Mailbox.

She created Party at the Polls in 2018, but when COVID-19 hit, they had to pivot.

“How do we create something engaging that engages and educates voters during this time?” she asked.

The effort began in Baltimore and has expanded to Detroit and Philadelphia. A bus delivers the boxes, which also includes information on how to vote.

Black Girls Vote has partnered with local non-partisan groups like She Can Win to distribute the boxes.

On election night, they’ll host a virtual watch party, where voters can come together and dance.

“Party with us,” Robinson said. “I’ll have my ‘Baltimore Votes’ T-shirt, someone else will have their ‘Philly Votes’ T-shirt, others will have their ‘Detroit Votes’ T-shirts.”
