PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man is in custody after he attacked six members of his own family inside their home in Kensington — while they were sleeping — police say.

The victims’ ages range from 26 to 46 years old, and all are at Temple University Hospital. Police say the oldest victim, the mother of at least some of the others, was most seriously hurt. The others are stable.

The incident happened around 4 a.m. on Friday, police say, at a row home on North Front Street near Clearfield Street. Officers who arrived on the scene say they found two knives with 7-inch blades, one of them broken. They say the door to one of the bedrooms had been knocked off its hinges.

Police say they tracked down a relative of the six victims who is the suspect in this case. Their relationship is yet unclear. They found him a few blocks away, with blood on his face, hands and body, according to investigators on scene. He had some small cuts on his hands, as well.

Officers took him to the hospital for treatment before arresting him.

The police did not go into detail about a motive, but they called the stabbing an act of domestic violence.
