Dominic Figueroa, 16, was outside a home along Hutchinson Street when two people came up and confronted him.

Sources say the two people frisked Figueroa. Eventually, a shooting began between the pair and someone inside the house. The teen was caught in the crossfire, shot three times in the face, and died at the hospital.

Early Tuesday morning, police responded to calls around 2 a.m. reporting someone with a gun inside a home near G Street and Kensington Avenue. Cops found the front door of the home open, and when they entered, they found a 20-year-old man, later identified as Dawud Meade, in the living room area, suffering from gunshot wounds to his face and body.

Police say it appears the home was vacant and that people used it as a shelter for illegal drug activity.

An 18-year-old was shot right near Frankford High School at about 8 a.m. Tuesday morning, but is expected to recover.

A dozen kids have been shot so far this year. Eight juveniles had been shot at this point one year ago.

120 people have been shot in the last two-and-a-half weeks. About one-fifth of the shooting victims are female.

There has been a 35% jump in homicides from this time last year, which ended with 562 victims. That is the most homicides ever recorded in the city in one year.

It is of even more concern for city officials, since January is typically cold, and many people stay indoors.

Mayor Jim Kenney and Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw will hold their bi-weekly news conference on gun violence Wednesday afternoon. We will be covering that and will bring the latest on their efforts.
