PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police have two men in custody, one of them injured, after a shooting Thursday night at a busy Chinatown intersection.
Investigators say a traffic officer witnessed it just before 8 p.m. near the intersection of 10th and Race streets.
The officer was able to hold onto a 26-year-old man when another suspect took off in a car.
Responding police spotted a vehicle with a flat tire on Broad Street that matched part of the license plate given for the car that sped away.
"Officers immediately pulled that vehicle over and realized that the 23-year-old front seat passenger was shot in the lower back. He was actually a shooting victim. He admitted to police that he was shot at 10th and Race streets,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told NBC10.
Small says the 23-year-old is in stable condition.
Police know at least five shots were fired, and it was initially unclear if they were shooting at each other.
"Preliminary information is these two individuals know each other and they have been having an ongoing dispute for at least the past several days or weeks,” said Small.
Both suspects are in custody, and at least one gun was recovered.
