PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Kimmel Cultural Campus announced its musical lineup for the 2022-23 season, featuring some of Broadway’s current hits and a few fan favorites.
Sixteen shows will make their way through Philly, bringing a combined 56 Tony Awards to town, including the highly anticipated premieres of “Moulin Rogue! The Musical,” “Six,” “Beetlejuice,” and “Tina — The Tina Turner Musical.”

“What everyone was missing during COVID was getting together and experiencing a full show,” said Frances Egler, senior director of programming and presentations at the Kimmel. “It’s really electric.”
Egler said the musical “Six” is the perfect show to bring people back to the theater after the pandemic.
“It’s a fantastic, fun exploration of the six wives of Henry VIII as done as a pop divas concert,” she said, “but it’s taking, as they call it, her-story from history, and it’s just a great mix of pop styles.”
“Moulin Rouge!” puts pop music on full display, too.
“It has 70 different pop songs just like the movie did, but sort of an even bigger and better and amazing, spectacular exploration of excess and love in Paris in the 1800s,” she described.

She’s also excited for the musical “1776,” which, of course, has roots in Philly. “It is set in Philadelphia [during] the writing of the Declaration of Independence, but it’s a new, modern take from director Diane Paulus.”
As of now, the Kimmel is still requiring masks and proof of vaccinations for attendees.
