Police believe recent armed robberies across Center City are connected

About a dozen similar attacks have been reported since September

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Authorities are warning the public about a string of armed robberies throughout Center City that they believe are connected, targeted attacks.

Officials say there have been about a dozen attacks since late September. A handful happened just this past weekend.

On Saturday night, a man was robbed of his Rolex watch at Third and Chestnut streets by two armed males.

A few hours later, police say a woman at 20th and Locust streets, near Rittenhouse Square, was held at gunpoint. Her expensive purse was taken.

Though the neighborhoods are on opposite sides of Center City, investigators believe they are connected — the M.O., they say, is the same.

There are always two or three men — no ages have been given — who approach victims with guns and demand anything of value.

Detectives are searching for video of the weekend attacks.

Officials urge anyone coming into the city for the holiday season to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings.
