PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police made an arrest Wednesday morning in connection to a fatal hit-and-run in Hunting Park the night before.

Police say 27-year-old Richard Collins of Olney was driving along West Hunting Park Avenue near North 17th Street around 7 p.m., when he struck a man who was crossing the Avenue and did not stop.

The 29-year-old male pedestrian, whose identity authorities are withholding, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, Collins is alleged to have driven a few blocks, where he parked his burgundy Tesla and walked to his mother’s house. Officials say the woman drove her son to the 39th police district to report the incident.

Less than 24 hours later, police arrested Collins. He is charged with aggravated assault, homicide by vehicle, accident involving death and recklessly endangering another person.
