PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia Board of Education plans to announce next month the candidates vying to replace Superintendent William Hite when he leaves the post at the end of the school year. The board is planning town hall events for each candidate.

The school board has not said precisely how many finalists there will be, but they are narrowing down the field of candidates. More information about the selection process is available online.

Each one will be invited to Philadelphia to spend a day fielding questions in separate meetings with students, school staff and parents. Then in the evening, each will hold an in-person town hall that will also be livestreamed.

The school board is seeking 32 people to ask those daytime questions: 10 high school students, 11 teachers or principals, and 11 parents. The board is accepting online applications for 32 panelists until next Monday, Feb. 28, at midnight.

The board plans to announce its pick for the new superintendent later this spring.
