PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The potential bad weather in Thursday's forecast is postponing the Phillies home opener to Friday. Regardless, the Phils' record is dreary to begin the 2023 season.

They are 1-5 after a brutal road trip to start the season. If you want to take it a step further, the defending National League Champs have lost eight of their last nine since winning Game 3 of the World Series.

Even in defeat following a 4-2 loss at the Yankees, manager Rob Thomson found a silver lining.

“Last couple of games, we’re playing the way we know how to play,” said Thomson, courtesy of NBC Sports Philadelphia. “We just gotta keep going and it’s gonna be good to get home in front of our fans and get some energy and get going.”

Injuries are still a problem. First baseman Darick Hall, filling in for Rhys Hoskins, left yesterday's loss with a sprained right thumb after trying to stretch a single into a double. Center fielder Brandon Marsh was scratched from yesterday’s lineup with a mild left ankle sprain.

“I think the best is yet to come,” said Hall. “Didn’t go our way the first couple series, but starting to swing the bats better and the pitching is really starting to come around too and I think we’re just gonna keep building momentum.”

While this positivity from the Phils may be deceiving your eyes, a piece of encouraging news that’s near impossible to argue is Bryce Harper has begun doing live batting practice as he rehabs from Tommy John surgery. Despite his progress, there’s still no definite timeline on when he’ll return to the line.

Maybe Citizens Bank Park will do the Phillies some good. They need it.
