PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police are investigating after a man was caught on video assaulting a driver and throwing bricks through his car windows on Broad Street Tuesday evening.
Just after 6 p.m., a 25-year-old man was driving north on Broad Street, near 11th Street, behind a group on dirt bikes. Police say the motorcyclists stopped abruptly, causing the driver of the car to hit one of the bikes.
The driver got out of his car to see if anyone was injured, but the man on the bike retaliated, police say. They say he “became hostile,” and the other motorcyclists surrounded the man’s car.
The man on the bike then punched the 25-year-old driver, authorities say. He was able to get back in his car and lock the doors, but video shows the group throwing garbage, bricks and cinder blocks at his car, breaking his windows.
At one point during the video, police say the offender retrieved a gun from one of the parked motorcycles and approached the victim’s car. The group ultimately fled.
The victim had minor injuries. No weapons were recovered from the scene.
On Thursday night, police say they identified a person of interest and took him into custody. The investigation is ongoing.
