Philly airport in a hiring frenzy to keep up with increased travel

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia International Airport is seeing some of its highest travel numbers since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Subsequently, officials say they are now in need of more workers to help get passengers through the gates.

TSA screened more than 4 million passengers nationwide last weekend, making it the busiest weekend since March 2020. It’s a sign of what’s to come in Philadelphia.

“The airport is busy. In July, PHL is expecting about 2.4 million passengers to pass through the facility,” said airport spokesperson Florence Brown.

To better service customers, the airport is pushing a major hiring campaign in which people can apply to certain jobs through Wednesday.

“The airport is really focusing on hiring right now, and that’s specifically around TSA and concessions,” she said.

The lack of workers means passengers really do need to take some precautions.

“Security lines can be long, so you want to give yourself plenty of time to find your gate, get some food, relax,” Brown advised.

She also suggests getting a ride to the airport because its parking lots have been at capacity over the last few weekends.
