Eagles, CHOP partner with police for gun buyback program at the Linc

Eagles auctioning off gun violence prevention shirts worn at practice

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia Police Department is holding a gun buyback event Monday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field.

The program will take place in the K Lot from 2 to 6 p.m.

The Eagles and the Center for Violence Prevention at CHOP are offering a $100 gift card to each person who turns in a gun. No questions will be asked and no appointment is needed.

All guns must be unloaded and safely and securely exchanged with police.

The event follows Saturday’s deadly mass shooting on South Street. Three people were killed and at least 11 were injured.

The day prior, on Friday, was National Gun Violence Awareness Day. The Eagles wore orange practice shirts, the defining color of gun violence prevention. The message paid tribute to victims and survivors of gun violence.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts demanded there be change after countless mass shootings in recent weeks.

“Having those assault rifles in our communities is unacceptable,” Hurts said, adding that he’s disturbed by the amount of violence.

The practice shirts that the Eagles wore on Friday are available for purchase at the NFL’s auction website. The proceeds go toward Philadelphia-based violence prevention organizations Frontline Dads and Mothers in Charge.
