PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Remains initially believed to be human that were found Friday in Ridley Creek State Park in Upper Providence Township have been identified as a deer, authorities said.

Police said the remains were discovered near the intersection of Chapel Hill Road and Ridley Creek Road by two hikers around 12:30 p.m. Friday. The Upper Providence Township Police Department contacted the Delaware County Medical Examiner’s Office, which initially thought the remains were human.

On Sunday, officials with the Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that after a more thorough examination, the remains were that of a deer, not a human, and no other remains were found. The investigation has been closed.

“The Medical Examiner’s Office related that after a more extensive examination of the alleged human remains, they have been confirmed to be that of a deer, not those of a human,” the state police said in a statement.
