PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia police officer shot and killed a shooting suspect wanted in Bucks County for a shooting earlier in the day, after the suspect shot at both PPD and Lower Makefield Police Department officers.
Terrance Bey, 29, was killed when a Philadelphia officer shot him.
The shots were exchanged Wednesday afternoon on Roosevelt Boulevard and Whitaker Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia.
No officers were injured.
Philadelphia police said that at about 2 p.m. Wednesday, Middletown Township police went to a home at 2000 Veterans Highway for what was described as a possible domestic situation with someone who was armed.
Police arrived and saw Bey, along with a witness who pointed toward him to let officers know he was the subject of the call for authorities, according to a police spokesperson.
Investigators say that police then called to Bey, but he then walked toward the officers with his hand in his front waistband area.
At that point, the officer pulled out his weapon and ordered Bey to show his hands, but Bey did not comply and ran to the back of the apartment complex, losing the officer, according to Philadelphia Police.
In a short time, the officer heard a shot fired, followed by the sound of "glass shattering," police say. At that point, police say someone left the apartment and yelled, "He shot me! Please help!"
According to Philadelphia police, the officer helped the victim and saw Bey flee the area in a vehicle, but that officer later pursued Bey when help arrived.
Numerous police departments from Bucks County aided the pursuit along with Middletown Township police.
After Bey and pursuing vehicles reached Philadelphia, an MTPD sergeant used a maneuver to make Bey's vehicle turn 180 degrees and face a Lower Makefield Police vehicle, according to police.
Authorities said that when the sergeant driving that LMPD vehicle saw Bey point what looked like a gun at him, the sergeant rammed his vehicle into Bey's, then took cover. Bey then ran across Roosevelt Boulevard, allegedly pointing his gun at the sergeant. That sergeant heard gunshots as he took cover.
A Lower Makefield officer fired at Bey, then a Philadelphia Police officer saw him run to a gas station and saw Bey shoot his gun at law enforcement, according to police. An officer from the Philadelphia Police Department's 15th district then fired his gun at Bey and struck him in the head, police say.
Rescue crews came to the scene, but pronounced Bey dead. Investigators found a semiautomatic weapon with "an obliterated serial number," according to police.
There was no evidence of any connection to the shooting Wednesday in Yardley where that township's police chief was shot.
