PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Marigold, an abused dog that was found abandoned in a West Philadelphia lot last month, is on the mend and will soon be available for adoption.
The young dog was discovered “tied up” and lying down by a person riding their bike near 63rd and Arch Streets. She was then brought to the Pennsylvania SPCA, where they say she had multiple rubber bands wrapped tightly around her muzzle.
Nicole Wilson, director of Animal Law Enforcement and Shelter Services, said the rubber bands constricted her muzzle so much that they dug into her bones, leaving Marigold with deep, open wounds. The open wounds were infested with maggots.
When she arrived at the PSPCA, she was severely underweight. Wilson says Marigold was likely left in those conditions for weeks. She underwent surgery and spent nearly a week recovering at Penn Vet before heading to a rescue facility.
“So she is at our Main Line Animal Rescue facility,” Wilson explained. “And she is under hospitalization there and she has had her bandages removed. She still has a little more recovery to do, but at this point people can start inquiring and moving forward with adoption.”
The animal abuse investigation is at a standstill with no new leads “unless somebody were to come forward at this point and recognize her and be able to point us in the direction of an owner,” Wilson said.
The PSPCA asks you to contact them if you have any information on this case.
