PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Former Philadelphia City Councilmember Maria Quiñones Sánchez is suspending her mayoral campaign. Now she’s calling for other candidates to address some of the issues that were at the top of her list.

The news that Sánchez is pulling out came Sunday morning. In a press release addressing her decision, she did not specify why she is getting out of the fight, but Sánchez, the first Latina elected to Philadelphia City Council, did call on the others still running to address the needs of the Latino community.

Sánchez says she’s disappointed that the other candidates have made no mention of how they would help Latino Philadelphians. She said she wants the city to move in a more inclusive and equitable direction.

Elected four times, Sánchez represented North Philadelphia’s 7th District since 2007, until she resigned this year to run for mayor.

She says she intends to remain in public life and to have community impact.
