PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Earlier this week, our broadcast partners at NBC10 & Telemundo 62 released a special edition of their Race in Philly series called Changing Climate.

It took a specific look at how climate change and pollution can go hand in hand with the racial inequities we are experiencing around the country.

During the special, Telemundo 62 Chief Meterologist Violeta Yas looked at how the changing climate has led to heat islands, pockets of heat in areas such as Philadelphia's majority-Black Hunting Park.

She also talked about how the environment of Philadelphia, including the lack of green spaces, contributes to parts of the city being hotter than others.

The special also looks at issues such as environmental racism and how pollution has an adverse effect on Black & Brown communities.

You can check out the special, which is a partnership between NBC10, Telemundo 62 and the Philadelphia Tribune, here.
