Reports: Driver, dozen students in hospital after school bus crashes in Easton, Pa., creek

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Several students and the driver were hospitalized after a school bus ran off the road and crashed into a creek in Easton, Pennsylvania, on Monday morning.

According to several reports, the Easton Area School District bus was carrying about 30 people when it ran into Bushkill Creek.

LehighValleyLive.com reported that at least two students and the driver had to be carried out one at a time in baskets because, according to Easton Fire Chief Henry Hennings, they were unable to climb up the embankment on their own.

Easton Area School District Superintendent David Piperato told LehighValleyLive.com that the driver and two students were taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital, Anderson campus; six students were taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital, Easton campus; and five students were taken by their parents to St. Luke's Hospital, Easton campus.

Easton Area School District police officer Scott Casterline told LehighValleyLive.com that the students attend middle school.

Images from NBC Philadelphia's SkyForce 10 showed the bus with water up to its windows in the creek.
