PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Medford, New Jersey man has been accused of stealing and selling about $250,000 worth of property belonging to a Central New Jersey police department.

Eric Coran, 41, is charged with second-degree official misconduct, multiple counts of theft, criminal computer activity and impersonation, and second-degree money laundering.

He worked for the Robbinsville Township Police Department as a communications officer for 21 years before being fired in early August, according to officials.

Authorities say he had access to purchasing and ordering equipment as part of his job.

The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office says over the last year, Coran sold police radios, emergency lights, sirens, and other equipment online under a fake name.

Investigators say he also received unauthorized access to a township software program to cover it up.

Coran faces between five and 10 years in prison and a $200,000 fine if he is convicted on the second-degree official misconduct charge. His prison term would run consecutively to any convictions on theft charges.

He also faces a $500,000 anti-money laundering profiteering penalty if convicted on that charge.
