PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Roxborough man has been charged with murder after his 96-year-old mother was found brutally beaten to death.
Shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday, police found the older woman on the living room floor of her home near Houghton Street and Jamestown Avenue, across from Roxborough Memorial Hospital.
Officials say she suffered blunt force trauma throughout her body. She died at the scene.
On Monday, police identified the victim as Bertha Johnston and charged her son, 59-year-old Gary Johnston, with her death.
The mother and son both lived in the house on Houghton Street, authorities said.
