PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Kids returning to Philadelphia schools next fall will not have to worry about getting a new student TransPass each week.
SEPTA is launching a new student Key Card that will be valid for the entire academic year.
“Each student who is eligible for a SEPTA fare instrument will be provided with a student fare card that will be good for the entire school year,” said SEPTA Deputy General Manager Rich Burnfield.
“They used to get a magnetic-strip pass that had to be replaced weekly, so this is a Key Card pass that will be good for the entire school year.”
The new cards allow administrators to add rides if a student needs transportation to an after-school activity, and they can be deactivated and replaced if a student loses one.
There are 65,000 district students in grades seven to 12 who use SEPTA to get to school.
