PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — One of the pricier items found in the produce section is being given away for free starting Wednesday.

Philly nonprofit Sharing Excess is handing out cases of free avocados at FDR Park through Friday because of a “massive surplus” in South America.

The group said there are “literally millions of perfectly edible avocados at risk of going to waste, and we can’t let that happen.”

The event has been dubbed “Avogeddon.” Sharing Excess added there is “no limit, no catch, just avocados.”

The nonprofit will be handing out the avocados at FDR Park through Friday from noon to 6 p.m. each day.
