PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia-area fundraiser is putting shoes on the feet of children and families in need.
Hearts for Humanity, based in Pottstown, is working to ease the burdens of underserved communities during the pandemic here and overseas, by helping to provide gently used and new shoes for those without them.
"A shoe drive to collect shoes, boots and sneakers for men, women and children," said Shona Levy with Hearts for Humanity.
"With the pandemic, it allows us to build a really strong network in our underserved communities."
Shoes that aren't used by families here in Philadelphia will be sent abroad, and the partnering organizations in return help fund local community efforts.
Levy called it a win-win situation.
"The money that comes from this effort goes toward the urban gardens for Hearts for Humanity," she said.
Hearts for Humanity is looking for Philadelphia-area businesses to be drop off spots for donations. If you’d like to learn more about how you can help, follow and contact the group through their Facebook page.
The shoe drive runs through August 8.
