PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It became the talk of Philadelphia sports fans and, well, all of the city: Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, and Andre Drummond heading to the Brooklyn Nets, and James Harden coming to the 76ers.
Sixers fans at Chickie's and Pete's said Thursday night they're excited to see what Harden brings, and for some, wishing Simmons well on his way.
Some sports fans in South Philly simply said good luck to Simmons.
"Have fun in New York," one shared.
“We accepted him from day one, and for him to turn it the way he did was a little strange," fan Drew McClain said.
"But you know, good for him. Hopefully, he had a better opportunity out there."
Others were hopeful for what's opening up for the Sixers with him leaving Philly to head to Brooklyn.
"The Ben Simmons thing was a lot of media, it was a lot of attention. It’s gone now and there should be no distractions. We should be able to move forward, and I hope to be competitive come playoff time," said Tom Anderson from Fishtown.
"I think right now, the trade makes us a win now team. It makes us a team that’s competitive right now.”
Anderson thinks the team now could boost our odds of adding more wins.
But Cedric Marlow from Southwest Philly thinks Brooklyn got the better end of the deal.
"With this move, I can potentially see them, Brooklyn, in the Eastern Conference Finals, if not the NBA Championship," said Marlow.
“You gave up Seth Curry, a shooter. And you gave up Andre Drummond, which is a big man and he steps in when Embiid is out.”
However, it seems overall, Sixers fans were excited to see what James Harden will bring to the court.
