PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police say a man and woman were shot through their South Philadelphia front door while trying to prevent intruders from breaking in.

Around 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, police say a 52-year-old man was trying to get into his car when five armed men jumped out of a Dodge Durango and blocked his path. They stole his watch, phone and keys.

Two of the men then entered the victim’s home, located near Jackson and 23rd streets, just a few blocks from Smith Playground. Police are not sure if they took anything.

The suspects left but came back soon after and tried to break into the house. The man and a 47-year-old woman inside tried to push the front door shut, but one of the suspects started to shoot through it.
