PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Starbucks has been ordered to pay more than $25 million to a former Philadelphia-area regional manager who was reportedly fired because she was white.
In 2018, the Starbucks store in Rittenhouse Square, at 18th and Spruce streets, made headlines after two Black men were asked to leave, and when they refused, they were arrested.
They were at the store for a meeting and hadn’t yet ordered anything. One had asked to use the restroom.
The incident led to protests, and Starbucks implemented racial sensitivity training.
On Monday, a federal jury in New Jersey ruled the company violated the manager’s civil rights by firing her in the fallout because she was white.
