LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) -- One student was killed and two others were hurt in a stabbing on the campus of Lincoln University, according to the Chester County District Attorney's Office.
The three students were stabbed Wednesday night. Officials say one of the victims died on the scene. The other two were taken to Christiana Hospital in Wilmington, where they were treated and later released.
What still needs to be answered is what exactly happened that led to this violence.
The DA's office has not said if anyone was taken into custody. Anyone with information is asked to call Chester County Detective John DiBattista at 610-344-6824 or Lincoln University Public Safety at 484-365-7211.
The DA's office is calling this an isolated incident, adding that there's no danger to the public.
The stabbing shocked members of the Lincoln community, including alumna Cherelle Parker, Philadelphia City Council majority leader.
"We will not allow these heinous, violent acts to destroy the academic excellence and safety of our students and our overall Lincoln family," she said.
University officials released a statement Thursday morning, saying they take student safety seriously and they’re working with police:
"We are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred on campus last night. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. We take the safety of our students seriously and are working with local authorities as there is an ongoing investigation. We have no further comment at this time."
