ARDMORE, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — The Lower Merion High School community is remembering longtime principal Sean Hughes, a week after his tragic death.
Hughes was killed in a car accident last Saturday while driving one of his sons to a soccer game. An in-person memorial was held for current students and staff to honor him. Alumni and members of the community watched virtually.

Students including Alana James spoke about Hughes at the memorial.
"Sometimes you meet someone in your life that shows you what genuine kindness and leadership was. In my interactions with Mr. Hughes, he always did just that," she shared.
District Superintendent Dr Khalid Mumin said Hughes was a model leader.
"There are a lot of lessons to be learned," he said, "in the way that Mr. Hughes lived his life."
Aidan Friedman told our partners at NBC10 that Hughes was a role model to his students. "Second father figure to all of us, and he's leaving a big hole at our school," he said.
Friedman said he noticed just how much Hughes' death affected the school's faculty.
"A lot of the teachers have been a little off emotionally in front of us. They're some of the strongest people we see every single day. Seeing them just break down in front of us, not being able to go to class, it's been tough," he said.
An online petition was started last week to name a Lower Merion middle school after Hughes. More than 7,900 people have signed it to date.
A viewing for Hughes is scheduled for Saturday evening at St Eleanor Catholic Church in Collegeville from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and again on Monday at 10 a.m., with a mass to follow.
