Suspect from killing outside Center City lounge placed in custody

Kenneth Frye turned himself into police after the death of Eric Pope outside Tabu Lounge

UPDATE: April 28, 2:32 p.m.

Kenneth Frye, the bouncer wanted in the death of Eric Pope outside a Center City lounge earlier this month, surrendered to Philadelphia police Thursday afternoon.

Frye, who reportedly worked for a private security company, was stationed as a bouncer at the bar. The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office has yet to approve charges against Frye.

KYW Newsradio has reached out to both the security company and the bar about the case, but as of early Thursday afternoon, neither had reached back to us.

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police sources tell KYW Newsradio that Kenneth Frye is wanted for third-degree murder in relation to the death of Eric Pope outside a lounge in Center City.

Investigators say Pope, 41 from Washington D.C., was punched unconscious outside of Tabu Lounge and Sports Bar in the Gayborhood at about 1 a.m. on Saturday, April 16.

Police said he was originally escorted outside of the bar near the corner of South 12th and Manning streets for being intoxicated.

Once he was outside on the sidewalk, a bouncer allegedly punched Pope. He was hospitalized but died over the weekend from his injuries.

It was initially unclear whether Frye, 24 from Philadelphia, worked for the bar or a private company.

KYW Newsradio has reached out to ownership and staff from Tabu, but had not heard a response back as of Wednesday afternoon.
