The original story follows:
PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 66-year-old man is dead and a teen is fighting for his life, in critical condition, after being shot Monday afternoon in front of Lincoln High School in the Mayfair section of Northeast Philadelphia.
The shooting happened just before 3 p.m. on Rowland Avenue near Ryan Avenue, outside a mini mart on the boundaries of the high school.
Philadelphia Police said school had just let out when a group of teens and two others got into an argument.
Authorities believe a man, 21, then began firing his weapon at a 16-year-old boy who was running away from them with other teens, as two plain-clothed officers were on the scene in an unmarked car.
The man allegedly shot the boy, who was listed in critical condition at Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital early Monday evening.
"We do know that the 16-year-old is a student here at Lincoln High School," Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw confirmed.
Police said a 66-year-old man was shot once in the head as he was driving by the scene. He was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead.
Outlaw said the officers on the scene arrested the shooter, whom she said is the brother of another student. A weapon has been recovered.
"An altercation now turns into a shooting, which now turns into a homicide because of what something that could have been handled in a different way before, whether it’s through mediation or a fight," said Outlaw.
She also cited more guns being on the street than ever before.
Schools Superintendent William Hite said trauma counselors would be helping students at Lincoln High School for the rest of this week.
