Nearly 20 shots fired at West Philly takeout restaurant, killing teen; police seek 3 suspects

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are looking for three men they believe fired almost 20 shots inside a Chinese takeout restaurant in the Mantua neighborhood, killing a 19-year-old.

Around 9 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to a shooting at the restaurant at Wallace and North 38th streets. When they got there, police say, they found an unresponsive 19-year-old man.

He had been shot several times and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Nearby, investigators found more than a dozen shell casings.

"We know at least 19 shots were fired from at least two separate caliber, semi-automatic weapons,” Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

They believe he was in the takeout area at a  corner restaurant, when Small says three suspects came up close to the victim.

"They went to the doorway of the Chinese takeout and began firing shots directly at this victim."

The owner was nearby when it happened, but Small says she was not hurt.

Police say they have video showing three suspects getting in and out of a car around the time of the shooting. At this time, no arrests have been made.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to send them a tip via telephone or text at 215-686-8477.
