PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 17-year-old boy and another young man are the two latest victims of deadly shootings in Philadelphia.

The double murder happened at about 1:50 p.m. Friday near the corner of 55th and Arch streets in West Philadelphia, according to police.

The 17-year-old boy was shot in the stomach and leg. The other young man, who police estimated to be about 20 years old, was shot five times.

Police said they was taken to Presbyterian Hospital, but died shortly afterward.

Officers did not initially make any arrests, and have not recovered any weapons on scene.

The teen is the 23rd child shot and killed in Philadelphia this year.

Several other teens were gunned down this week, including a 14-year-old in a donut shop, two 19-year-olds struck on Thursday morning and another 19-year-old earlier this week.

Homicides in Philadelphia are up about 35% from last year's nearly record-breaking year, at about 240 victims. Most stem from arguments.

Police continue to take more guns off the street than ever before.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said that not only are the victims younger and younger, but they are finding that so are the shooters.
