
PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police are investigating a shooting that left five teenagers wounded at a playground in the East Oak Lane section of the city Sunday night.
The incident happened at Sturgis Playground, located at Second Street and West 65th Avenue.
Around 11 p.m., a shooter or shooters went after a group of teens, according to police. At least 18 shots were fired at them.
Investigators believe the teens were chased, based on the spent shell casings found throughout the playground.
The victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries:
— A 17-year-old boy was hit in the foot.
— A 16-year-old girl was shot in the thigh.
— A 16-year-old boy was shot in the ankle.
— A 17-year-old boy was hit in the buttocks.
— An 18-year-old male was hit in the thigh.
All are in stable condition.
A motive was not immediately made clear by police.
There have been a number of shootings at Philadelphia parks and recreation centers in recent years.
This latest shooting also adds to the list of young people who have been the victims of gun violence in Philadelphia. Out of the more than 1,000 shooting victims in the city so far this year, 10% have been under the age of 18, according to the Philadelphia Controller’s Office.
