NJ senator wants a better connection between Atlantic City's airport and casinos

ATLANTIC CITY (KYW Newsradio) — There’s no rail or shuttle right now to connect Atlantic City International Airport to the casinos, beaches and tourist destinations of the city some 14 miles away. New Jersey state Sen. Vince Polistina is looking to change that.

Polistina says he is seeking a solution to get more people to and from the airport and casinos easily rather than have them rely on ride-hailing apps and taxis.

“The airport has got to be a resource that is used to bring visitors to the area and transportation from the airport, to the airport, is going to be a component of that moving forward,” he said.

“When you look out at Vegas, they have trams connecting some of the properties. When you go to some of these major metro areas, they all have some type of transportation system in place that you just hop on.”

He says there is already some infrastructure in place.

“It could be anything. We have some right of ways here with the old rail lines that could be used to try to give people the ability to hop right on, get over to the city, and get where they’re going.”

He says this is just the brainstorming period for this idea, and he is seeking input from travelers as well as transportation experts on what may be the best way to do it.

“Let’s get all of our agencies here collaborating on what makes the most sense to get something done,” he said.

He says the airport is a valuable but underused resource, and he thinks that’s a major component to getting more visitors — and their money — into Atlantic City and the surrounding area.
