PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Grocery giant Wegmans is warning shoppers to watch out when buying its greens, for both human and feline family members.
The Food and Drug Administration says Wegmans has issued a recall on three products, because of a possible risk for salmonella contamination.
- Wegmans Organic Farm & Orchard Micro Greens, 1.75 oz.
- Wegmans Organic Baby Kale & Baby Spinach with Sweet Pea Leaves, 5 oz.
- Wegmans Organic Farm & Orchard Cat Grass
The recall is for Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina.
The supermarket chain says the soil those products were grown in tested positive for the bacteria, which can cause symptoms including fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and in more severe cases, heart infections and aneurysms.
Wegmans says the recall is entirely out of an abundance of caution. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the products. The company is alerting Shoppers Club members with automated phone calls, and suggests anyone who bought the greens return them to their stores for a full refund.
