PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Driving in and out of the South Philadelphia Sports Complex may start to be slightly less cumbersome.

The Wells Fargo Center announced its parking lots with be permanently cashless starting Friday, when it hosts WWE Smackdown.

It will accept all major credit and prepaid cards, as well as digital payments like Apple and Google pay.

According to SP+ Parking Solutions, cash payments took three times longer than pre-purchased parking and twice as long as credit card purchases in the last year.

Wells Fargo Center general manager Phil Laws said cashless parking was enacted at the height of the coronavirus pandemic, and they noticed how much it sped up the parking process.

The 76ers and Flyers call the Wells Fargo Center home, and it also plays host to as many as 250 other events and concerts throughout the year. Center officials say going cashless will dramatically reduce wait times for parking and improve traffic flow.

Visitors can reserve parking ahead of time online, though Lincoln Financial Field and Citizens Bank Park visitors looking to use the Wells Fargo Center parking lots must pay onsite — no cash.
