Man is the oldest defendant arrested for Jan. 6 insurrection

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The oldest defendant arrested for the Jan. 6 insurrection pleaded guilty on Friday for his involvement.

Gary Wickersham, 81, from West Chester, Chester County, admitted to entering the Capitol. He said he was there for about 15 minutes.

Federal authorities say he told them he believed “he was authorized to enter the Capitol because he pays his taxes.”

Wickersham pleaded guilty to parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building. The government dropped other charges in exchange for his plea.

He will be sentenced at a later date and faces up to six months in prison.
