Even the best shows sometimes get criticized for the quality dipping towards the end of their run. Many fans can point to the exact moment the show “jumped the shark,” a reference to the ‘Happy Days’ episode where Fonzie attempts to waterski over a shark. While not every show has an obvious “jump the shark” moment, Will Smith believes he knows the exact moment his beloved series ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ was no longer the same.
In his new memoir ‘Will,’ actor Will Smith discusses his life and career, telling stories of fan favorite projects like ‘Bad Boys,’ ‘Hitch’ and of course, ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.’ According to Entertainment Weekly, Smith claims the show was great up until the episode where his character gets shots, and his cousin Carlton begins carrying a gun. “Anyone who has ever been on a sitcom can tell you the episode in which their show jumped the shark. Ours was season 5, episode 15, 'Bullets over Bel-Air,'” said Smith.
Of course, Smith went on to have a huge movie career after the show, while ‘Fresh Prince’ has remained a nostalgic series for many. At least fans now know what episode they can stop watching at next time they decide to binge the series.
