UPPER DARBY, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — As the nor'easter rolls out of the region, digging out of the snow and ice gets underway.

That's true everywhere, including Delaware County, which saw 4-7 inches of snow across the area.

Although the roads were snow-coated and slippery, with temperatures below freezing and the winds whipping, people had things to do.

"It's hard driving, you know, slippery," said one man in Upper Darby. "I got frozen hands ... I know I need gloves, I forgot them."

Christopher Johnson of Upper Darby, who works at a surburban hospital, stopped at a grocery store on his way home.

"Just done groceries to get me through the rest of the week. So I’ll come back out shopping probably around Friday," he said, adding he purchased the essentials for French toast. "Got bread, got butter ... got milk too."

He also bought eggs.

Josh had a contract to clear snow from several Delaware County apartment complexes. There was a method to his madness.

"It's hard because I have 12 different properties up here that I do. I have to run from one to the next, to the next," he said.

"I can only do so much. You got to get all of the snow out of the way, then once everything stops, we can go ahead and start salting stuff. But right now, putting salt down, all we are going to do is end up with a block of ice on the pavement."

He said another challenge for him has been impatient drivers.

"They'll pull right out in front of you and whatnot," he said. "I'm sorry, but you see guys in trucks with plows coming through, stay out of the way for a minute. Let us by, we're trying to clean it up for you. The least you can do is move."

South Philadelphia residents like Ralph Mercado spent hours clearing sidewalks from the remnants of the snowstorm.

"I been out here since 5:30 this morning," he said. "I do my neighbors, do my neighbors over here because they're senior citizens."

"I just like digging in the snow really," said six-year-old Amina, hard at work being a good helper and shoveler. She also had big plans for after the job was done.

"I'm gonna go [make] snow angels," she said.

Meanwhile, some people weren't as chipper about the lengthy cleanup behind them and ahead.

"Getting a little too old for this," said one resident. "Florida sounding better and better all the time, ain't it?"
