Sometimes, it pays to be consistent.

This happened to be the case for a Maryland man who finally won the lottery after playing the same set of numbers for nearly 10 years, lottery officials said.

The man, who has chosen to remain anonymous, brought home a $50,000 payday on May 28 after playing the Maryland Lottery’s Bonus Match 5 game, a press release shared.

The Prince George’s County winner shared with lottery officials that he has continued to use his numbers despite them coming up short for nearly a decade.

“I play the same numbers all the time, I’ve been doing so for years,” the man told officials.

So what were his lucky numbers? The man bought a $4 ticket from a liquor store in the state and played the numbers 5, 6, 8, 23, and 30. But, unlike the countless times in years past, this time, they won big.

The man shared that he learned he had won the top prize the following day, shocked that his special set of numbers finally did the trick, the release shared.

He shared that he quickly called his wife of 22 years to let her know he had won.

Seth Elkin, a spokesman for Maryland Lottery and Gaming, told CNN in an email that people using the same numbers when they play isn’t uncommon.

“Sometimes it’s birthdates or house numbers or uniform numbers of their favorite athletes, and sometimes they’ve just decided certain numbers feel ‘lucky’ to them,” Elkin said.

While he’s had almost 10 years to think about what he’ll spend his prize money on, the man, who is a retired printing press operator, said he plans on using it for bills and savings.
