A manufacturer of reusable cups and bottles meant for babies has issued a product recall because of a potential risk of lead poisoning.

Green Sprouts, a North Carolina-based company that makes a number of baby products, issued a voluntary recall last week affecting about 10,500 units that were sold between January 2020 and September of this year.

Three different product lines are affected:
— 6 oz. Stainless Steel Sippy Cup
— Sip & Straw Cup
— 8 oz. Stainless Steel Straw Bottle

According to the company, the base of these three different products could break off and expose a solder dot containing lead. Lead is a metal that is toxic if ingested.

The products are sold at chain retailers including Whole Foods and Bed Bath & Beyond.

“Testing of this component was omitted by the CPSC-approved third-party lab because this part of the product is inaccessible under normal use,” the company said on its website. “As we approach the redesign of these products, whose benefits for keeping drinks cold safely have made them a popular choice for parents, we will ensure that lead is not used as a soldering material.”

The tracking codes printed on the bottom of the recalled items are 29218V06985, 35719V06985 and 33020V06985.
